Zlakusa is well known for it’s pottery craftsmen. The village is only 20 kilometers from our hotel. Here you can pay a visit to the natives who will gladly show you how these items are made, and if you wish you can even give it a try yourself.
This traditional way of manufacturing kitchenware and other items from clay have been drawing attention of domestic and international publicity for some time, which resulted in (now traditional) an international exhibition „Zlakusa“ ,where the very process of manufacturing is presented along with the final products.
Ethnic park „Terzica avlija“ in Zlakusa is a museum which is partly in the open, with it’s yard and the two authentic old-fashioned serbian houses, and an ethnic room as a permanent exhibit, along with other, periodic theme exhibitions. This ethnic park contains a section where one can taste traditional meals and find accomodation; a stage on which numerous cultural events, occasions and concerts take place. It works every day, from april to october.
„Potpećka pećina“, a cave with the highest cave entrance in Serbia, is located in the village of Potpeće, near Zlakusa. It is unique in it’s monumental entrance in the shape of a horseshoe, 50 m in hight and 12 m width. The Potpećka Pećina cave is an erosional cave, formed by the waters of subterranean rivers. This cave was once explored by our famous geographer Jovan Cvijić. Two distinct levels can be differentiated in the Potpećka cave’s tunnels: the older – the Upper Cave and the more recent – the Lower Cave. It is thought likely that the cave was inhabited by humans as far back as the Neolithic period. Many archaeological remains have been found in the cave, such as ceramics, fashioned deer antlers and flint weapons. The cave is open for visitors from 11:00 – 19:00h
